Notice the whole request
You may not hear a clear robotic sound. Instead, notice what the voice is asking you to do: stay secret, act immediately, move to another app, share a code, or use an unusual payment method. A familiar voice can be copied from a short public clip, while the surrounding story is built to keep you from checking.
Pay attention to odd phrasing, a conversation that never allows questions, an unfamiliar number, or a sudden change from the person’s normal habits. These clues are not a verdict. They are enough to stop treating the call as proof.

Verify without asking the caller
End the call and start a new one from a saved contact. Use a family group chat, a known workplace number, an official app, or another route the caller did not provide. Avoid clicking the link or using the callback number inside the original request.
A safe word can help your household recognize an unexpected call, but it should support an independent callback rather than replace it. If the person cannot tolerate a short verification step, pause the request and bring in someone else before acting.

Make the habit easy to remember
Agree on one sentence everyone can use: “I love you, and I verify money requests another way.” Put saved callback numbers somewhere reachable and practice the sentence together. A calm routine is stronger than trying to judge audio quality while frightened.
